See Patient Progress in Labs and Forms Without Leaving the Appointment

A single lab result tells the team what is happening today. The pattern over time tells the bigger story: is treatment working, is a concern returning, is a finding staying stable, or is something starting to move in the wrong direction?

Ubik now brings that story into the New Technician Portal. Doctors and technicians can see quick trend cues directly on General Lab rows, then open Trends & Comparisons when they want the fuller patient history.

Less chart digging. Fewer missed changes. A faster way to walk into the next decision with the pet's history already in view.

What Changed

The New Technician Portal now has two ways to review progress over time without leaving the appointment.

First, repeat General Lab values get an at-a-glance trend line and short status right in the row. For labs the pet has had before, the team can see the direction of change without opening another screen.

Second, the Tools menu now includes Trends & Comparisons. This opens a focused view of the active pet's saved lab and form history so the team can choose what they want to review and see how it has changed.

Together, the row cue helps with fast scanning, and the tool gives the team the full story when the pattern deserves a closer look.

Trend Cues Right Where the Team Is Working

Repeat General Lab results now get a small visual history right in the row. For saved previous results on the same pet and lab value, Ubik shows:

  • a small trend line of recent values
  • a short status such as improving, worse, stable, resolved, changed, or new abnormal
  • a hover detail with the previous and current value
  • a normal range band when the clinic has that range configured

The row can still show whether values moved up, down, or stayed similar even when no normal range is configured. Normal ranges make the cue more useful by showing whether the movement is getting closer to or farther from the expected zone.

The result is simple: repeat labs become easier to scan, and the row still stays compact.

The Trends & Comparisons Tool

Some patterns deserve a bigger view. From the appointment rail, open Tools > Trends & Comparisons to choose exactly what you want to review.

No guessing what to search for. Ubik builds the picker from the pet's saved history, so the team can choose from the lab values, form answers, and recorded findings that are already available for that patient. Filters help narrow by source, date range, or repeated findings when the history is long.

Numbers can show a chart, first value, latest value, and change summary. Choices and notes still matter, so Ubik shows those as a timeline and table instead of ignoring them.

That means the tool can support questions like:

  • Is creatinine trending down after treatment?
  • Has a urine protein value stayed stable across visits?
  • Did a qualitative skin finding change from mild to moderate?
  • Has a supplemental form answer repeated across multiple appointments?
  • Are current observations consistent with the pet's prior history?

Answers and Findings Matter Too

Veterinary records are not only numbers. A lab panel may include positive, negative, trace, mild, moderate, or severe findings. A supplemental form may capture appetite, pain, hydration, lesion character, urine appearance, stool quality, or other notes that matter over time.

Those answers may not create a line chart, but they can still show progress or regression. A repeated "positive," "trace," "moderate," "cloudy," or "worse" can be just as important to notice as a number crossing a line.

The comparison tool keeps those findings in the patient's story instead of burying them in older records.

How to Use It

  1. Open the pet's appointment in the New Technician Portal.
  2. Save the current lab panel or supplemental form if the team just entered new values.
  3. Open Tools > Trends & Comparisons.
  4. Choose the lab value, form answer, or finding you want to review.
  5. Filter by source, date range, or repeated findings when the history is long.
  6. Review the chart, timeline, and table before making the clinical call.

The tool depends on saved records. If a newly entered panel or form has not been saved yet, save it first so it can participate in the comparison.

Normal Ranges Help Tell the Story

Trend review becomes more useful when the clinic has normal ranges configured. Ranges help Ubik show the expected zone and make it easier to see whether a change is moving in the right direction.

This update also gives new accounts broader starting coverage across more patient groups, with a backfill path for existing accounts. Clinics can start with more useful defaults, then adjust ranges to match their preferred lab provider, equipment, and medical standards.

The goal is practical: give the team a better starting point, then let clinic-specific rules become more precise over time.

Better Review in the Same Workflow

Lab and form history is most valuable when the team can use it at the moment of care. The new trend cues and comparison tool keep that review inside the Technician Portal, close to the panel, form, and patient context.

That helps the team move from "what is today's value?" to "what is happening with this patient over time?" without leaving the appointment.
